Find out how you can decorate your marquee to fit the trend of bringing your living room outside.
Spring is here, which means the start of outdoor events with marquees and outdoor structures. If you’ve found your desired structure, how do you plan to style it away from the dull drab “norm”? A recent trend has seen event planners bring the indoors out, replicating a living room in an outdoor structure to create a comfortable environment for your delegates to socialise.
Furniture
Take a look at outdoor sofas and tables that replicate the indoor type, but offer weatherproof and durable fabrics, you may want to donate, recycle, or reuse after the event so be aware of wear and tear of using actual indoor furniture. Don’t go for the wicker or woven garden type, look for similar styles you’d use indoors that are suitable for your use.
Creating Zones
Zones can make the space look more homely. Outdoor rugs which can be patterned and ornamented like indoor versions do this well, while room dividers or tall cabinets and bookshelves can section off an area and draw attention to a feature such as a bar area.
Devil’s in the Detail!
High ornamentation can replicate the comfortable surroundings of the indoors. Most accessories are easier to take outside since they don’t have to be in waterproof fabric (though specifically outdoor sofa cushions are commonly available now). Dress your seating with cushions and throws, and your tables with a runner, coasters, and centrepieces. Coffee table books or magazines should be scattered around– the more indoor typical features you use will make your space look more layered.
Lighting Up
An impressive feature to add novelty or theme is freestanding lamps, the tech team will find creative ways to hide the wires or opt for rechargeable lightbulbs to give you more freedom of placement with your furniture, providing you find ones with long battery life.
Think Green
As with most events, keeping your carbon footprint down is a challenge. Keep the fire tags on, and check out the furniture recycle charities and shops near you that will often pick them up for free, but better still can you re-use and re-style.
